ABOUT US AND WHAT WE DO

The Wilderness Trust Ministries (Registered Charity No 1096871)  was set up by Reverend R F Carter in the UK. In 1999 Permission was given by the Office of the President for the Kenyan Government for the Wilderness Trust Ministries to assist in helping to reduce the number of less fortunate in Kisumu and the surrounding villages in Kenya.

The Wilderness Trust Ministries is run purely by unpaid volunteers which enables us to spend every single penny raised on our projects rather than administration.

Our volunteers are given permission by the WTM to assist us in our efforts to help the needy by visiting the old and frail within the communities and freely assisting where they can.

Reverend Carter (Roger to us) has received a letter of thanks from the Kenyan High Commission for his work in Kisumu and has also been

awarded the honour of Ambassador of Peace for the U.N.

Education:

Roger has helped build a school for the village children, enabling them to obtain an education and therefore, a brighter future where they can provide for their families rather than rely on aid.

In Kenya it costs just £6 per child per year to go to school.  Just £6!  Such a small  amount for most of us but for those in Kenya it is a huge amount.  For £8 a year we can pay for a child to go to school and provide them with pencils and paper. We can only pay for this through donations and sponsors and are desperate to help as many as we can.

The villagers, under the direction of Roger Carter, are learning to farm their land, fish sensibly and sustainably from the local lake (filled by WTM) and how to make hygiene products for girls and women amongst many other things.

WTM only employs the villagers themselves to carry out work in the village which will include building, farming, maintenance etc. but also relies heavily on the loyal volunteers that help whenever they can.

Clinics:

Rev Roger Carter and volunteers have been holding clinics in the village administering as much medical aid as possible.

Injuries and illnesses that can be cured by simple use of antibiotics  can become very serious or fatal in Kenya as the villagers do not have the money for medicine or treatment.  The Wilderness Trust Ministries are constantly in need of medicine which has to be bought in Kenya so we are eternally grateful for any donations to help pay for these much needed supplies.

One of the biggest killers is still malnutrition which can be cured very easily. With food!

The people here are very short of money and can afford very little which is why we  provide education and as much work as we can for the local villagers so they can provide for their families and their futures.

Other clinics include Sight tests and then the supply of glasses that have been donated. Any prescription glasses donated are gratefully received. Many of those supplied with glasses have never owned a pair which makes life very difficult for them, especially when it comes to reading. One elderly lady burst into tears of joy when for the first time she was able to pick up her bible and see the words. The WTM can make an amazing difference to lives, but only with your help!
